If you aren’t sure how to crochet a baby blanket, this pattern is perfect for you! Thicker blankets are easier to crochet, warmer for baby, and fun to have around. And it’s very simple but elegant.
You can use this stitch for boys and girls, you can use one color like me or more colors you chose. With all this, you could always increase the size of the blanket if you want to make a throw for your livingroom.
Materials
Size 5 yarn 900m
7mm hook
Tapestry needle
Stitches used
Chain: ch
Back post double crochet: bpdc
Front post double crochet: fpdc
Half double crochet: hdc
Stitch(s): st(s)
Single crochet: sc
Skip: sk
Space: sp
Notes
When you see *( )** it means you repeat the instructions in between *( ) **. Where you see the word turn it means to turn your work clockwise and work back down the row. This pattern is done in multiples of 4 so if you want it bigger or smaller add 4 more or less chains. You can find the video tutorial for this pattern here baby blanket
Row 1. Ch80, do 1dc in 4th ch from hook. 1dc into each ch.
Row 2. Ch2 and turn, 1hdc in next st, *(1 fpdc around next 2 sts, 1bpdc around next 2sts)** repeat till last 2 sts and do 1hdc in each st.
Repeat row 2 till you reach the desired length.
Border
First side
Ch1, sc in first st,* (ch1,sk1, sc in next st)** repeat till end. Ch2 and do 1sc into same sp. Second side Ch1, you will be skipping two hole spaces and doing 1sc into the next hole.
*(ch1, sk2, 1sc)** repeat till the end ch2 and sc in same sp.
Third side
*(Ch1,sk1, sc into next st)** repeat till end. Ch2 and 1sc into same sp.
Fourth side
Ch1, sk first hole and do 1sc into next hole. *(ch1,sk2, 1sc)** repeat till last sc and join with a sc into first sc.
Next round
Ch1, and into the corner sp do 1sc, *(ch1,1sc into ch1 sp)** repeat on each side and for each corner do 1sc,ch2,1sc. For the last corner do 1sc ch1 and join with sc into first.
Repeat this round as many times as you like. Cut yarn and weave in tail.
