MATERIALS

Yarn

5 mm and 5.5 mm Crochet Hooks

Yarn Needle

Faux fur

Scissors



STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS

Ch = Chain

yo = yarn over

sk = Skip

St(s) = Stitch(es)

Sl St = Slip Stitch

P/U = Pick Up

Blo = Back Loops Only

HDC = Half Double Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

FpDC = Front Post Double Crochet

BpDC = Back Post Double Crochet

FpTrTr = Front Post Triple Treble Crochet

PC = Popcorn Stitch

DC2tog = Double Crochet 2 Together

DC3tog = Double Crochet 3 Together

FpDC2tog = Front Post Double Crochet 2 Together

DpDC2tog = Back Post Double Crochet 2 Together



NOTES:

*Adult size.

*US crochet terms are used in this pattern.

*’DC 10′ means DC into the next 10 stitches.

*The turning chain ch 2 does NOT count as a DC.

*Repeat instructions between asterisks (**) as many times as directed.

*Total stitches are indicated in between < >.



BRIM

With 5 mm crochet hook

Foundation: ch 25, turn. (work in the back loops of chain base.)

ROW 1: HDCinto 2nd ch from hook, HDC in each st across, turn. <24>

ROW 2-44: ch 1, HDC in BLO, turn. <24>

*Fold the band in half. Drop the loop on hook, insert your hook to the first st of foundation row, draw loop through, ch 1. Take both loops of same st of foundation row and only back loop of row 44, make a sl st.  Work a sl st into each st of foundation row to  back loops of each st of row 44. Do not turn your work after joining the brim. We will keep working on the wrong side.




HAT

Switch to 5.5 mm crochet hook

ROUND 1:  ch 2, p/u 66 DC sts around the top of the brim, sl st into 1st DC. (since we work half double crochet rows, two rows is equal to three double crochet stitches. So, 44×1.5=66) <66>



ROUND 2:  ch 2, DC 17, FpDC, DC, PC, DC, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC 4, BpDC 2, FpDC 4,  BpDC 2,  FpDC 4, DC 3, FpDC, DC, PC, DC, FpDC, DC 17, sl st into 1st DC.




ROUND 3: ch 2, DC 17, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC,  DC 3, sk 6, FpTrTr 4, working in behind fptrtr just made, BpDC around 5th st and next skipped one, working in between the behind of fptrtr and bpdc just made, FpTrTr around first skipped st and next three skipped sts, BpDC 2, FpDC 4, DC 3, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC, DC 17, sl st.





ROUND 4: ch 2, DC 17, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC 4, BpDC 2, FpDC 4, BpDC 2, FpDC 4, DC 3, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC, DC 17, sl st.

ROUND 5: ch 2, DC 17, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC 4, BpDC 2, sk 6 sts, FpTrTr around next 4 sts, working in behind fptrtr just made, BpDC around 5th and next sts, working in front of the sts just made, FpTrTr around first skipped st and next three skipped sts, DC 3, FpDC, DC3, FpDC, DC 17, sl st.



ROUND 6-14: Repeat rows 2-5.



ROUND 15: ch 2, *DC 3, DC2tog*3, DC 2, FpDC, DC3tog, FpDC, DC 3, *FpDC2tog*2, BpDC 2, *FpDC2tog*2, BpDC 2, *FpDC2tog*2, DC 3, FpDC, DC3tog, FpDC, *DC 3, DC2tog*3, DC 2, sl st. <50>

ROUND 16: ch 2, DC 14, FpDC, DC, FpDC, DC 3, FpDC 2,BpDC 2, sk 4, FpTrTr 2, turn back to 3rd st skipped (working in behind) place BpDC 2, turn back to 1st st skipped  (working in front) place FpTrTr 2, DC 3, FpDC, DC, FpDC, DC 14, sl st. <50>

ROUND 17: ch 2, *DC 3, DC2tog*2, DC 4, FpDC2tog (skipping DC between 2 fpdc), DC3tog, *FpDC 2, BpDC2tog*2, FpDC 2, DC3tog, FpDC2tog (skipping DC between 2fpdc), *DC 3, DC2tog*2, DC 4, sl st. <36>

ROUND 18: ch 2, *DC 2, DC2tog*3, FpDC, DC, FpDC 2, skip BpDC, FpDC 2, skip BpDC, FpDC 2, DC, FpDC, *DC 2, DC2tog*3, sl st. Ch 1 and fasten off leaving long tail. <28>



FINISHING

Take the yarn needle and  weave in and out around stitches of last round. Pull tail tight to close the hat. If a gap occurs, continue to weave and to pull the hat completely shut. Secure the yarn. Attach faux fur pom pom to the top.
